Newt

April 20, 2017

I only recently got round to seeing Fantastic Beasts and, I'll be honest, I wasn't expecting much from it. I had the rather cynical idea that JK Rowling and Warner Bros. had got together, their eyes lit up with dollar signs, and farted out some anodyne tween fantasy garbage featuring a handful of conveniently merchandisable new Pokémon - but I'm glad to have been proven wrong. I really enjoyed the film, and I loved Newt Scamander and his undiagnosed Asperger's so much I decided to draw him.

It took me forever to get this pose right. I wanted to fill as much of the available space as possible, so I gave him nice long arms and legs with a relatively small torso, and a mysteriously flailing scarf. I struggled at first to come up with a background, but I think the cave-painting-style bugs and beasts do just the trick.
